North Pasadena Redevelopment Plan
The City of Pasadena, in conjunction with the Pasadena Second Century Corporation (PSCC), contracted the Wilbur Smith Associates Team to develop a Redevelopment Plan for the northern portion of Pasadena. The purpose of this Plan is to determine redevelopment options and identify methods of implementation for these recommended development options. The Plan also provides a framework incorporating previous planning studies, existing initiatives, and planned capital improvements to pave the way for change based on the steps identified in this Plan.
The WOW Project
The WOW Project is a landscaping and beautification initiative originally conceived by Mayor Johnny Isbell in 2009 as a way to enhance the appeal of public spaces in Pasadena through the use of trees, flowers and native vegetation. Primarily focused on the city's roadway esplanades and main traffic corridors, this project brought together city staff with private landscaping professionals to produce a master use plan.
The visual improvements to these roadways have been significant, encouraging businesses to consider Pasadena's quality of life, while bringing more of our community's rural past into the experience of today's resident and commuter. And with extensive irrigation systems in place to nurture the native xeroscape plantings, this is one initiative that is both eco-friendly as well as aesthetically satisfying.
With The WOW Project about 90 percent complete, reaction from area businesses and residents has been very positive, with support for the project's goal clearly embraced by the community.
In the works are plans for other improvements along SH225, as the City partners with the Pasadena 2nd Century Corporation to install entrance signage at the City limits, as well as bringing more landscaping projects to our historic northern corridor.
